10 Unusual Ways to Use Liquid Gold

Wood has been and always will be Liquid Gold’s first born – but we can’t leave the rest of the kids in the closet! Scott’s Liquid Gold can be used in a variety of weird ways and we’d love to share them with you!

Bike Chain

1. Bike chains! Use Liquid Gold as a lubricant for all your pesky chains.

2. Metal hand tools for gardening and carpentry – Liquid Gold will prevent rusting, while cleaning and restoring your tools.

3. Have you ever thought to use Liquid Gold in the bathroom for porcelain and chrome? To prevent soap scrum build up and leave the “just cleaned” look for longer use  Liquid Gold after your normal clean and rinse. Great for the toilet, sink, and (chrome, brass, porcelain) hardware.

4. Are your sliding door tracks always stuck? Stick no more with Liquid Gold – simply clean them out to aid in better movement.

5. Squeaky hinges! No way, you can now take care of those obnoxious doors and chairs with your everyday cleaner! Use Liquid Gold as a lubricant on squeaky hinges.

6. Most stainless steel appliances in the kitchen are waiting for some Liquid Gold love! However, avoid places that are exposed to high heat. Again, wash first as normal then top with Liquid Gold for the beautiful shine you want from your stainless steel.glove

7. Clean and soften leather! Believe it! Liquid Gold is great to clean and restore your leather luggage, boots, baseball mitts, and everything else!

8. Liquid Gold acts as a dust repellent on window screens!  Rinse them with water, let them dry and then use Liquid Gold as you normally would. The neighbors will think you hired a professional to clean your screens year-round!

9. Removing stickers from bumpers, windows, and appliances! Who knew – don’t spend tons of money purchasing a cleaner to only use once or twice when you can use what you already have under the sink!

Stained Glass

10. Clean and restore stained glass windows and decor! Stained glass can attract dust rather quickly and in abundance! Liquid Gold will scare the dust away! Boooo dust!

There you have it, 10 unique ways to use Liquid Gold! Hopefully you are surprised and inspired by more than one use! As always, feel free to contact us with questions about using Liquid Gold! Don’t miss us on Pinterest and YouTube!

Do-it-Yourself this Weekend!

book5With Spring creeping upon us, it is time to begin our annual organizing fiasco! I challenge you all not to throw away but reuse, re-purpose and recycle while you organize!earth heart

I stumbled upon this amazing idea, but realized I was lacking in old, antique looking literature. I had heard of this awesome antique store, Tables to Teacups, decided this was the perfect time to investigate. It was a great success! Grandma’s house is always a good place to begin these projects as well.

The How To: You’ll need a drill, L-brackets, ruler, and screws. booksYou will use 3 L-brackets per ‘book shelf.’ One bracket will need to be slightly smaller than the other two brackets. One set of brackets will be placed below the books, and the other (smaller) bracket will go on top of the book(s). Measure your books and start drilling (two sets of hands makes this much more manageable)! I also used a level at this point for my perfectionist side. Lastly, the smaller bracket is placed on the inside, bottom of the second (top) book – this pressed the books together enough so they didn’t move around.

Shelving

This makes a pretty solid shelf but ultimately, you won’t want to place anything heavy on these. I must say it felt wonderful when my friends made notice of the new addition to my house and they loved it.

I did this differently than the folks from which I found the idea: Thanks Kristin for a fun and easy project!

A Picture-Perfect Season

Prepare to be amazed! Autumn’s in the air and many nature enthusiasts and photographers gravitate toward the luscious fall foliage to capture the fleeting beauty of the season. Now’s the time to grab your camera and head out to the parks, woods, forests, mountains, coastlines and beautiful country landscapes to view the full palette of fall colors. Whether you’re just planning to share those glorious shots with friends or creating a fabulous new collection for a gallery, you’ll want to be certain of one thing – that your camera lens and viewfinder are clean and clear!

Over time, as with many other electronic screens, cameras accumulate various types of contaminants (e.g., fingerprints, dust, dirt, etc.). Each of these can distort and/or partially obstruct our desired scene and we may not realize it until it’s too late. Checking our lens and viewfinder for dust and smudges is something we suggest doing on a regular basis, not only to ensure we’re getting the sharpest possible pictures, but also because a fingerprint or alien smudge left to “ripen” can cause permanent damage to the lens coatings.

Keeping our cameras clean isn’t rocket science, but nonetheless, it’s a chore that should be performed carefully, thoughtfully and with the proper tools and techniques. And while the obvious solution may be to clean the camera lens and viewfinder before, during and/or after each use, we’ve found that not all cleaning products are created equal.

For many years, we’ve relied on Clean Screen as our product of choice. What we love about Clean Screen is that it’s carefully formulated to protect your valuable electronic screens, but it’s also portable! If you’re out on a shoot and need to clean off dust or smudges, the kit fits nicely in the glove compartment of any car and is convenient to carry in backpacks and bags.

The kit contains a special microfiber cloth, which cleans without scratching delicate surfaces. (You’ll NEVER want to use facial tissue, paper towels, polyester-based material, or any type of coarse or abrasive fabric or paper surface.) Clean Screen leaves nothing behind but a crystal-clear clean. So, prepare to be amazed with picture-perfect results!

An All-American Toolbox!

Like many, I love finding unique ways to breathe new life into old obsolete household items.  While cleaning the garage storage closet  I found this old toolbox, (maybe circa 1950) that belonged to my father-in-law.  I did not want to put it in the trash or donate it but it was just sitting there collecting dust.  I took it out of the garage and started to clean it up hoping that I might be inspired to find a new use for it.  And guess what, it worked!  How about An All-American planter to brighten my porch this Fourth of July? I started by cleaning up the toolbox with a gentle, mild detergent.  I used Scott’s Liquid Gold Wood Wash. I wanted to be sure to get all the dirt off, inside and out, and remove any chemical residue.  But I also wanted to be sure it was safe for plants. You can see that it was pretty dirty! To deep clean the wood and hydrate it, I used Scott’s Liquid Gold Wood Cleaner and Preservative on the outside of the toolbox to restore the wood.  The wood was so dry and thirsty it took several applications.  When the wood looked good, I buffed out the extra oil. Then, I placed whipped topping containers in each section to catch extra water and added ten dollars worth of  red, white and ‘blue’ petunias. Added a few flags and Voila!  I have a unique planter from an old toolbox steeped in American history and ready to celebrate the Fourth of July! Wishing you and yours a safe and happy All-American Fourth of July!

You Can Keep the Change

Growing up in Denver, Colorado, I have used Scott’s Liquid Gold my whole life.  As a teen in the 70’s, one of my chores around the house was to dust the dining room furniture. My mother is the one that introduced me to Scott’s Liquid Gold.  She used it on our ‘good’ furniture.  It always made things look great, especially a large over-sized hutch that housed the ‘good’ dishes. It made everything in the dining room look so clean and shiny.  I can still smell the original almond scent.

A French author in the 1600’s wrote, “The only thing constant in life is change.”  Pretty astute for a guy from the 1600’s.  But not all change is for the better.  A one pound can of green beans now weighs 14.5 ounces.  The average price for a movie ticket has gone from about $1.50 in 1970 to nearly $8.

Coming soon to a store near you – A NEW look for Scott’s Liquid Gold!

Fortunately Scott’s Liquid Gold has not really changed much in the last 40 years. The can looks a little different; cleaner, brighter and fresher. But like an old friend, it is one of the things I can count on in an ever-changing world.  I still use Liquid Gold to dust the dining room furniture and I have taught my daughter to do the same.  It still leaves my furniture clean and shiny.  It still has that warm, familiar almond scent.  I’m not sure people still do chores, dust a hutch or use the ‘good’ dishes but if they do I hope they are also using Scott’s Liquid Gold in their home.  It’s tried and true and works just as well today as it did when I used to dust the hutch.

Hit the Road!

Summertime is finally here!!! Which to most Americans means it’s time to hit the road and traverse the highways of this great country to destinations unknown and as of yet undiscovered to you and your family.  Road trips are an amazing way to travel with family and friends but they can be a little less than you expected until you get where you’re going. Sometimes what’s outside your car window maybe dull and boring for hours and hours and hours and hours. So no doubt you’ll what most people of this day and age do, whip out the iPod or laptop or iPad or perhaps the portable DVD player for some entertainment, only to discover it’s so dirty you can barely see anything on its screen!

There may be your little sister’s sticky fingerprints caused by the huge chocolate bar she got at the gas station covering every inch of the screen or maybe you accidentally dribbled ice cream all over it when you fell asleep watching “Inception”. Whatever the case there’s something special that should be everyone’s glove compartments that can help, “Little” Clean Screen by Scott’s Liquid Gold! These small but powerful cleansing cloths are specially designed for use on delicate, tempered screens like those of an iPod, laptop, iPad or portable DVD player. Just take one out of its individual package and gently rub away all that dirty, disgusting-ness. Now hours of entertainment await you!
